Cumulative Patches and multiple reboots required and what causes Pending Restarts

Lately with the Microsoft Cumulative patching some patches are requiring multiple reboots. Below will show you why machines are showing Pending Restart and how you can clear it. If that patch requires multiple restarts this guide will show you how to automate that process

Hey Brad,

Do you know of a way to incorporate this Pending Restart fixlet or something similar like a “Check for Pending Restart” checkbox into the WebUI’s Patch Policies process? We’ve recently been testing the WebUI’s Patch Policies but the one issue we run into is the “Pending Restart” flag after the server reboots. On the Patch Policies, Force Restart is set to immediately after the action completes but multiple restarts still cause this job to get stuck in Pending Restart limbo until next month’s patch cycle.

Not presently an option that I’m aware of, but you can submit a BigFix Idea (i.e. RFE) for considerations.

Once custom sites are allowed in Patch Policy we can address this and many other actions that currently are not available from Stock HCL repositories.
