Creating response file or Changing default installation directory

(imported topic written by Edj)

I am attempting to reinstall the BES client on a remote device. I would like to change the directory (E: verses C:)in which the client is installed. Does anyone know how to create a new response file for use with the Client Installer? I am also willing to use the client installation without the Client Installer.

I would like to reinstall the client without locally uninstalling, deleting the registry keys and manually reinstalling.

Thanks,

Edj,

You can find information about the command line parameters available during client installation here:

http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=222

Does that give you everything you need?

Jessewk,

Sorry for the late response. That was everything I needed.

Jessewk,

In the scenario above, I was able to remotely install the client to a different directory. That solved my immediate issues.

I was however required to connect to remote machine and locally remove the client using the BES removal tool. If I remotely uninstalled the client it leaves the file structure in place, which was 75MB in size. This defeats the purpose of moving to a different directory.

In the future, I would like to remotely uninstall completely or perform a true reinstall to change the install directory.

Thanks,

EdJ

Edj,

You have a few options. In the console, Fixlet ID #219 in the BES Support Site, “TROUBLESHOOTING: Remove BES Clients” has the option to do a complete removal.

You can also use the BES Remove Tool available here:

Thanks Jessewk,

I will try Fixlet #219 and see how it works for us.
