I have recently moved to a dual monitor system some time in the last month. This morning when logged into the BES console, it didn’t display. I could only see the console window if I maximized the program window, which goes across the two screens. If clicked “restore down” icon in the upper right hand corner, which should allow me to position and size the window, the console disappears as if I have minimized the program. My boss, who also has a dual monitor system, has had this problem for a while, but I had chalked it up to something he had done on his system. Is there something buggy about running the console on a dual monitor system? Any thoughts on correcting this? I assume there are registry settings that control the last known window position and size stored in my user profile. Anyway to manipulate those to get me a visible and resizable window?
One trick is to right-click the console in the task bar, hit restore, right-click again and hit move. Now, you can use the arrow keys to move the console back into the viewable area. I haven’t seen that problem with the BES Console itself but I have seen issues with some of the dialogs that popup being off screen (like the manage properties dialog or edit fixlets).
You can reset the console positions by clearing registry keys as well. First close the console and then delete this key:
I have the same problem with IE, iTunes, and almost all other apps… none of them seem to deal well when a monitor suddenly disappears… But I always use the same trick that Tyler does and it works well for me…
Thanks for your help guys. I poked around in that key, but wasn’t sure what values to manipulate. Rather than delete the whole thing (including the order of all the retrieved properties I’d become used to after 4 years) I took a chance and deleted the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BigFix\Enterprise Console\Window Sizes. When I opened the console the next time, I had a window that was centered across the two monitors. I was able to then resize and move the window where I wanted to.
