Console server disconnects when starting console application

Hi,

We have updated our BigFix ‘QA’ environment to version 11.0.3.82 about 2 weeks ago. All is going well but noticed strange behaviour on our BigFix Console server (Dedicated server Windows Server 2019) that only runs the BigFix Console. We do RDP to the server, then start the Console application and everytime we noticed that during loading of the console our RDP connection gets disconnected. If we re-connect the console is loaded and we can work in it like normal. We checked this with multiple operators and behaviour is the same for everyone Is this is a known issue and is there a setting we can apply to prevent this from happening has anybody else seen similar behaviour. We have not noticed behavior in our current 10.0.10.46 environment.

We’re upgrading our production environment this weekend, and for sure if our operators see this will create some noise in the system any advice would be appreciated.

The issue you are experiencing is more likely related to RDP session policies or server configuration rather than the BigFix Console itself. The Console does not have inherent functionality to force an RDP session disconnection during loading. It is worth verifying the following settings to ensure they are not causing the behavior:

  1. Open Gpedit.msc and navigate to:
  • User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Session Time Limits
  1. Check for configurations like:
  • Set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions
  • Set time limit for disconnected sessions
  • Terminate session when time limits are reached
  1. Review whether these policies are set and if they might be prematurely terminating or disrupting your RDP connection during resource-intensive operations, such as loading the BigFix Console.
