I would like to request your assistance in configuring the BigFix Inventory DSA (Disaster Server Architecture) server in our environment. We need help with setting up the secondary server, enabling replication, and validating the synchronization between the primary and DSA servers.
As far as I know there is no DSA for Inventory: Disaster recovery . Let’s see if someone else is aware of something I am not.
If I am correct though then your best bet for DR if you don’t want to rely on standard DB backup/restore and manual server reinstall is to consider instance replication but this would be done outside of application and on hypervisor level (assuming you are running BFI on a VM of some sort), and very much dependent on what toolset you have.
For example, we used to use Zerto with VMware ESXi, which offers continuous VM replication - it makes sure that your VM is copied over from current VMware hypervisor to another, so if current goes down you can just power it on the other device, update the DNS to point to the new host with new IP but the same exact BFI server with DB & BFI install is up and running as was. We now have gone with Nutanix DR, which is not synchronous but instead snapshot based but again, allow snapshot of the entire server to be replicated over to a different location. Generally there similar functionalities more-or-less across all major hypervisors and even in the cloud.
