We had a bunch of clients uninstall themselves due to this bug when we advertised the packages via Group Policy after the clients already were installed. All were using the .msi based install.
2 - can you post the 10 or so lines of the install log just before where the installer fails.
3 - try searching the for “BigFix Enterprise Client” in the registry path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products. If you find it, remove that key. There was another installer problem with the original release of the 8.0 client which use a different key.
When authenticating the BES License file, it says Choose a hostname for your BigFix Server that will allow BigFix Clients to connect to it. . Should I use the server name, FQDN, or IP address? (This is on a VM server)
This is a different issue than what is being discussed above, I have a server where besclient service failed, I removed the client using the remove utility and it removes the client except for the service in services section. I’ve tried re-installing and removing client multiple times, but service fails to start and uninstall process fails to remove the besclient service from the server. Is there a way to manually remove this service before I re-install the client?.
That is certainly not supposed to happen? What version of Windows are you using? If it is Windows 2000, I believe there was a bug in the Windows service manager that would cause this if it was open during the uninstall… I believe restarting helped…
You might look at using the sc.exe command to try to manually remove the service.
