Client Baloon Behavior

(imported topic written by macook91)

Hello,

Had a question regarding client balloon behavior. I have a single user who’s client gives one of the balloon notifications every time a new offer is made available. I have a number of persistent offers out there for the clients that rotate frequently, so this has proven quite annoying for him. I imagine there is a client setting to turn that off. I would like his client to behave like the other 400 clients I have, which are silent unless you make a conscious effort to go run an offer, then the balloon lets you know the offer is complete. I have attempted to set his tray to HalfBaloon and this did not fix the issue.

Thanks!

Mike

Hey Mike,

What is the settings on all the other clients that are working the way you want?

Ok, on 99% of my clients when the user logs into the workstation, the tray icon loads quietly in windows and the bigfix client doesnt make a peep.

I currently have 40+ offers out there that are available all the time.

On this particular users computer, she logs into windows, and the client loads and it says “New offer available” 40 times for each offer available to her. It does this via the bigfix baloon. Is there a way I can force this off?

I think “NoBalloon” mode might work for you (or at least it would be interesting to see if the balloons are replaced by a bunch of BigFix popups)… Here are the balloon client settings:

Balloon Modes:

“_BESClient_ActionManager_BalloonMode”

Default = “HalfBalloon”

Value must be one of:

“NoBalloon” Mode

If the tray is enabled, the default behavior is for “notification” messages to be shown using the Windows balloon notification mechanism. On platforms that don’t support the balloon notification, we use a simple dialog box with a “Hide” button (just as we did in the 6.0 action UI). If “No Balloon Mode” is enabled, all balloon messages will be displayed in the simple dialog box. The main advantage of the dialog box is that we (or the user) control when it is displayed, while Windows will make balloons disappear if another message has to be displayed, or if a timeout has been reached.

“HalfBalloon” Mode

When this mode is enabled, “running” messages will be displayed using our messaging dialog box, so that they are not automatically removed by Windows, while “notification” messages will be displayed using the Windows balloon notification mechanism.

“AlwaysBalloon” Mode

When this mode is enabled, “running” messages will be displayed using the Windows balloon notification mechanism (in addition to the temporary “notification” messages).

I set it to NoBaloon mode, but the user is still having the issue. It might be worth mentioning that this did not occur prior to the latest client upgrade to 8.1.5.

It is actually worse in NoBaloon mode, the dialog makes you click ok before it dissapears.

It might be time for a support call…
