Cancelling Actions by the user

(imported topic written by gcibirch91)

Hi,

Was wondering if there is anywhere in BigFix where you define the number of times a user is asked to reboot their machine.

Say we send out the monthly patches to the desktop, for whatever reason the user needs to cancel the restart. Is it possible then to configure a further popup say in two hours time for them to reboot and so on. Finally giving them say a fourth and final warning to reboot their machine and then have a countdown of say 10 mins to give them time to sort their work out?

thanks

as an Add-on is there a way to set the snooze time and only allow the user to do this rather than cancel the action?

Hi gcibirch,

I am a bit confused because it sounds like what you are asking is basically how it works today… If you set your deadline to X hours, then the user can “snooze” for a time interval (multiple times) and then once the deadline approaches, it will countdown and restart.

Also, you have the ability to add the cancel button to the action if you want the user to be able to abort the action.

Sorry let me give you a scenario;

We send out the patches to the user desktop say 1pm. The patches install and then the BigFix agent displays to shutdown box. Now if the user is working on an important or urgent document we want them to have the ability to to delay the shutdown or announcement of the shut down for a set number of minutes or hours. I saw snooze on the display but this was only snoozing for five minutes I believe. Is there a way to expand this?

thanks

Check out the Post-Action tab in the Take Action dialog.

You can:

  • Allow the user to cancel the restart
  • Set the deadline for restart from 1 minute to 30 days
