Can I use Amazon RDS to deploy my SQL server for BigFix?

Hello,

I would like to install BigFix but I want the DB to be managed by AWS’s RDS service.

I’m not sure I’ll be getting full SA permissions on that database and the documentation says I need to have sysadmin permissions on the SQL server.

I couldn’t find posts about this specific topic so here I am. Can I use Amazon’s RDS service to deploy an SQL server for my BigFix installation?

Thanks

I know at least a year ago some customers were running in RDS but had trouble performing upgrades because they could not acquire the server_admin role. I presume they had a configured deployment and migrated the existing database to RDS but I wasn’t involved with it, I heard about it second-hand.

I’m not sure whether anything’s changed on enabling that in the platform.

@Aram @davel anything to say on this?

Thanks. We’re actually not looking to upgrade an existing installation, we want to install a clean one. I’m assuming this would be relevant in the future if we’d want to upgrade at some point.

I guess we’ll have to go with a non-RDS way of installing our db. Thanks

I’ll keep my ear to the ground if I hear about progress on this I’m sure we’d have an announcement.

Actually, that’s me
Thanks for the answer, will post there.

It is not advisable to install BigFix with AWS RDS for the BigFix databases. Either size your AWS nodes to run all BigFix and MSSQL services co-located or have an additional AWS node for your MSSQL instances.
