If you are using(or planning to use) the BigFix Cloud Plugins for AWS, GCP or MS Azure perhaps you have realized that data created by this plugins and then ingested in the BigFix Platform Database is not imported into BigFix Inventory(And perhaps other applications like BigFix SCA).
We are facing a challenge with this, we have spent a lot of time implementing the plugin to support hundreds of AWS account in one of our BigFix Environments and we recently discovered that the data generated by the plugin is not present in the BigFix Inventory Database and currently there is no way to do so.
I have created an Idea for this, if you feel like you will benefit from this please vote.
Maybe I am not understanding your goal but are you after seeing the metadata (cloud data) for the correlated devices OR do you want to see uncorrelated (i.e. proxy-only records) in BFI/SCA?
If it is the former that seem to be available under “Manangement”->“Computer Properties” and select the cloud properties you want to be available - here is an example of the “Region” for the different clouds is available for selection:
and whatever properties you add will see the data after next data import.
If you are after physically want to see the uncorrelated devices (the proxy-only) records, why would you want that? They hold absolutely no data - no hardware scan results, no software scan data, no compliance data, so even if you import them they will be those “ghost” records that just make the entire data unreliable. If you have the agent installed (and they have both native and proxy), they already are but if it is proxy only, I don’t see the point. If you want BigFix to be able to retrieve software/hardware/compliance data in agentless manner then I can see merit to it but it’s completely different topic. Otherwise, install the agent and they will be in both BFI/SCA regardless whether they are public cloud or not.
I’m interested in seeing the metadata(cloud data) for correlated devices. And I have already selected one of the properties reporting that kind of data in BigFix and waited for at least a couple of imports and the values are not imported. All I get is an empty result for correlated devices in BigFix Inventory. Are you saying that you are able to see the data in BFI? I Indeed worked with an HCL BigFix engineer from support and they told that the data is currently not imported. Based on your comments we may have a different configuration.
Could you verify if you are seeing the cloud metadata in BigFix Inventory for correlated devices?
No, I just checked if they are available to select but didn’t test the actual data import. If that in itself is not working I would consider it a bug but if Support are telling you not currently supported, not much you can do. It makes sense now and voted for the idea (absolutely, required!).
