BigFix without external network connectivity?

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Hi,

I have set up a intranet LAN. I have intallated BES -Server/console on one machine and Client at other machine.

I want to know "if i can deploy custom fixlets to the BES Client(s) without having external internet connectivity in the BES server.

I tried this option but i see following when i try to deploy the fixlet/action:

Propagation Error

X Unable to contact BES Root Server to update current time.

Does that mean BES Root server needs external internet connectivity(outside network).

Is there any way to deploy the custom fixlets to the intranet LAN BES client without having the outside network connectivity?

Please suggest.

Thanks.

That error indicates the console can’t reach the server (and not that the server can’t reach the internet)…

Here is how you install in an air-gap network:

You have some pretty interesting posts on your BigFix Server configurations… How many BigFix Servers are you operating?

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply.

I have couple of queries:

  1. Console can’t reach server( which server you are addressing to? ) – WHY IS IT HAPPENING SO? This happened when i disconnected the external network connectivity.

  2. could you tell me if i can have BES server/client on the INTRANET setup without having outside network connection?

Anyway i am operating on just one BES server .

Please suggest.

Thanks.

Hi Amrat,

  1. I am not sure why this is happening, but your console error reports that it cannot contact your BigFix Server. Perhaps there is a DNS issue or routing issue when you disconnected from the WAN?

  2. If I understand what you are asking (BigFix Server and Agent on intranet and not connected to the Internet) then that airgap link I gave you should give you the details.
