Bigfix v10.0.2 on old windows OS

It was my understanding that BigFix v10.0.2 Client was only supported on Windows 2012R2 and newer, however when you run the v10.0.2 Client setup exe, it allows you to install it on 2008R2 without any error. Is that a bug with the installer or is it ok to run this client version on this OS ?

Here it shows v10 client is only supported on 2012R2 and newer

I think it is neglected to be restrict it or chose not to but glad they did cause it works just fine (I guess it’s technically “not supported”). I have been running 10.x agent on 2008 and 2012 non-R2 specifically public cloud machines cause otherwise the Multicloud correlations don’t work on them, no issues whatsoever.

Interesting. I see in the 10.x upgrade fixlets they do only allow relevance on 2012R2+.

This is the difference between ‘works’ and ‘supported’.

The choice about running a supported older client or the latest unsupported client is yours, weighing up the merits and demerits of newer capabilities against support.

The ready-made fixlets will have relevance to keep you in a supported configuration. You’d have to copy them and make adjustments if you decide that is the way to go.

Yea, they do have that but as you noticed that .exe itself works fine, so you can just customize the relevance before running the fixlet if you chose to upgrade those anyway…
