BigFix Server Domain Name Change

An existing Bigfix server (supporting ILMT & MSSQL on the the same) is to be moved to a different domain. There will be no new server, just the server moving to a new domain

Current: ilmtprdserver01.uk.domain
Proposed: ilmtprdserver01.companydomain.uk

The IP will stay the same
The masthead pointing to a FQN : ilmtprdserver01.uk.domain

What steps need to be carried out?

Will the BigFix server still be reachable by the initial name? The license is tied to the name used in the masthead and can’t be changed.

This will be a new installation with new license and masthead file. All the clients will need to be reset with the new masthead file.

If you can add a CNAME you should be able to cater for the changes via DNS so the name in your masthead resolves to the new FQDN across your environment. I’ve migrated to new hardware, new IP, new FQDN on multiple occations and as we use a alias for the server name in the masthead, its easy to cater for the server name or IP changes by simply updating DNS.

You can also consider leveraging the ‘Last fallback Relay for all Clients (replacing Root Server)’ configuration to help here. Please see https://help.hcltechsw.com/bigfix/9.5/platform/Platform/Config/c_editing_the_masthead.html for reference.
