Bigfix Relay Configuration - can we set Download Interval for relay?

Hi All,

we have 10 Bigfix relays in different locations in our environment and all are reporting to the Bigfix root servers.

But, we have some serious bandwidth issues at 2 client locations and it has a relay in each location. we have concern that those relays should not download any of the content from root servers during office business hours and we need to set a specific time interval for those 2 relays to download the content from the root server.

please suggest if any such settings exist in Bigfix architecture to control the relays download interval ?.

There’s a couple of ways you could handle this…

1, AirGap the Environment even though it’s technically not an AirGap scenario
2. Set the Windows Task Scheduler to start and stop the relay service (and or agent) at convenient times or if it’s a Unix relay then set a cron job to do it.
3.Use the advanced settings to change how frequently the relay polls etc…

There may well be another BigFix way of doing this but I’ve went for the easy options

  1. consider using one or more of the bandwidth throttling settings that are available.
  1. Run an out-of-hours action on the relays in question to force caching of content you expect will be required - see the File Pre-Cache Wizard to generate some sample code.

Hi trn,

Can you please explain how to do that…?

Run the wizard (Wizards | Bes Support | File Pre-Cache Wizard)

Select a fixlet or baseline you are intending to send to your clients using those remote relays

That will create an action - you can set the targets (your two remote relays) and execution details, so the network impact is at a time of your choosing.

The action just runs all the downloads for your fixlet/baseline. It does nothing with those files, just downloads them, but because it is run on the relay, the relay cache will then have the files.
