BigFix Power Management: New Features Released

We are pleased to announce the release of a new set of Power Management features.

The new features include:

  • “Last Man Standing” functionality, which increases the likelihood that wake-up points are available in each subnet: http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=502

  • A solution to the “PC Insomnia” problem where computers don’t enter Standby when they should: http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=503

  • Four new configuration Tasks to maximize the savings realized from Power Management and to minimize end-user disruption: “Set Wake-from-Standby by Magic Packet Settings”, “Set Sleep State to S3 when USB Devices are Present”, “Enable All Input Devices to Allow Wake from Standby”, “Set Minimum Sleep State to S3”

  • Improvements to the layout of the Power Controls section of the dashboard, enabling one-click direct access to Power Management Fixlets/Tasks/Analyses

Action “Enable All Input Devices to Allow Wake from Standby” is failing on 90% of computers in the environment and all laptops deployed to so far. It appears to failing at the line of the action: At 09:35:32 -0500 - BES Power Management (http://sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/bespowermanagement)

With laptops this means the power button has to be pressed to recover from standby

Hi,

It looks like this status means that the input devices can’t wake a computer from standby… You might want to contact support for them to look to see if anything is wrong…

We have had some instances recently of PC’s (desktops or laptops) where a PC cannot wake up from Standby by either using the mouse and/or keyboard. The PC goes into Standby without issue (it just cannot wake up from Standby). Enabling the above task fails on some PC’s. These are new PC’s and we have a large number of the same models and same images (XP), so the theory that this is HW not supported is contested as the task qworks on other PC’s (Same hardware and image). ANy thoughts?? Thanks
