BigFix Patch now supports BigFix Scanner for Automatic Middleware and Database Discovery

The BigFix Patch team is pleased to introduce automated discovery for our existing middleware and database patching content. This new release integrates the BigFix Scanner capabilities to automatically detect the version and installation path of middleware and DB software, streamlining the deployment of patches to all identified instances across your environment.

What’s new

This release introduces advanced functionalities designed to streamline the lifecycle of middleware and database software management. By leveraging the BigFix Scanner, the platform now provides:

  • Automatic Version & Location Detection: The scanner automatically identifies the exact version and file system location of installed middleware and database instances across your endpoints, eliminating the need for manual configuring custom installation paths.
  • Multi-Instance Patching: Once discovered, the system enables simultaneous patching of multiple software instances on a single host, ensuring consistent security posture across complex environments.
  • Enhanced Visibility: Gain a granular view of your middleware footprint, including "hidden" or non-standard installations that traditional methods might miss.

What is included

  • Task to execute the middleware scanner to discover selected software
  • Task to manage settings and configuration
  • Task to remove the middleware scanner
  • Multi-instance patching tasks (scanner-based) for:
    • Apache Tomcat
    • IBM WebSphere
    • Oracle WebLogic
    • RedHat JBoss
    • IBM DB2

The "Updates for Windows Application Middleware" and "Updates for Linux Application Middleware" external sites have been updated to support the use of the Scanner based patching for the select softwares

Published site version:
