BigFix Noob Question

(imported topic written by Yankee195091)

Our company is a BigFix user - we are helping a small neighbor company install and setup their own BigFix. To help the company I have created a “self installer” for the BigFix client software - using my company’s client software componets.

Question - will the self installer (using my company’s BigFix client software files) work with the new company’s BigFix server install? Or are the client software files “branded” in some way that they will work only with a specific server.

Thanks

Yes, the BES Client installer (setup.exe and msi) include a licensing file called the masthead which ensure that the agent will talk to the appropriate installation of BigFix. The license ties the BES Client to your deployment and if you help your friend out in this way, his computers will actually be under your control  Hope that wasn’t your intention!

Anyway, your neighbor should use the BES Client installer off of his BES Server to create the installation package. You should be able to find it in the C:\BESInstallers directory.
