BigFix Inventory migration from RHEL6 to RHEL7

Hi!

We need to migrate BigFix Inventory from RHEL6 to RHEL7 server (new hostname, new IP) and would like to double-check if I understand the procedure correctly. As it’ll be completely new servers, we’d probably need to reinstall BigFix server from scratch and then distribute new licenses from the old BigFix server right?
What if we’d like to keep BigFix Inventory data from the old server? I guess first we would need to migrate DB2 and restore the backups from the old version. Do you know if that’s supported? Would be great to hear some thoughts if someone has already done similar work. I didn’t find any useful documentation which would include the whole process for the migration.

Hi

We have to do the same, move our Inventory applikation from a RHEL6 server to a RHEL7 server, can below guidlines be used for this migration :

There are few things to consider here. Is BigFix Inventory (BFI) on the same server as BigFix or is it on a separate server? Note that migrating/moving BigFix is different task and is more involved process.

If the goal is to move only BigFix Inventory (BFI) to a new server, then follow the instructions from the above link. If moving the BFI database (temadb) to another server, then refer to this link.

Thanks for the answer, our BigFix is on a different server, on which we have placed the Inventory database, so the only thing installed on the RHEL6 server is the Inventory application (without the database).
