Actions needed:

To upgrade the BigFix Inventory server to application update 11.0.8.0, run the Upgrade to the latest version of BigFix Inventory Fixlet from the BigFix console and the BigFix Inventory site.

Note: BigFix servers running version 10.x must trust their own SSL certificate to correctly cache Inventory catalog files. For details refer to the release notes.

Important! It is recommended to restart the BigFix Inventory Server after successful database schema upgrade to ensure proper initialization of internal information about current database schema.

The complete upgrade procedure and post-upgrade steps are available in the product documentation:

Our Dev/QA and Prod instances on v11.0.7 were updated today.

No issues found so far, though we are not in full production yet with Inventory. Coming soon though.

Update

We have found an issue and are working through some testing… We have a Prof Services engagement right now so checking with him. There could be a ticket open soon…

but the issue is with LDAP/AD and user provisioning. If a user authenticated and was provisioned already on v11.07 or earlier OR is assigned manually, then the user can log in. If the user has never logged in and we have a rule for user provisioning, there is an error and the user cannot login. So in another words, automatic provisioning is not working with LDAP/AD.

There is a call out in documentation for SSO and user provisioning. Even though that is not related to LDAP/AD, we did try enabling that feature, but saw no change.

:update2

We have 100% validated it’s a problem with v11.0.8 codebase. We will be putting in a ticket.

Schema update is looping for us.

We see this in the tema log over and over and over.

Run out of fingers counting the number of times an upgrade for BFI takes a dirt nap.

Extremely disappointed.

Case was opened, yay!

Hi! For sure we will look at the complete logs in the case to review.

Regarding the logs like:

1773155292_match_cleanup.rb: deleted 100000 rows from sam.file_rule_matches_persistent

In BFI 11.0.8 we have identified and fixed issue with orphaned data entries for: signature, rules and the matches and there are 3 separate migration scripts.

As our good practice we keep the transaction small and put updates in the logs for every successful batch of 10000 records so there is clear that database upgrade is progressing and not stale. So it should not indicate looping but rather progressing over the batches.

As I wrote we will take a closer look at the logs, however I hope that upgrade at the end completes successfully.

In the import log there are also provided information about the number of the records to be process during the Upgrade:

For example:

1773155292_match_cleanup.rb: 10808 rows to delete from sam.file_rule_matches_persistent

will result is having two logs:
1773155292_match_cleanup.rb: deleted 100000 rows from sam.file_rule_matches_persistent
1773155292_match_cleanup.rb: deleted 808 rows from sam.file_rule_matches_persistent

If anyone is will to check how many records needs to be removed for File Rule Matches here is the query:

SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT m.id) AS total
FROM sam.file_rule_matches_persistent m
LEFT JOIN sam.file_rules r ON r.id = m.file_rule_id
WHERE r.id IS NULL

If the number is high (more than 100 000) operation will take longer. There are other tables cleaned up as well, but usually rest if much more smaller in size than the File Fact related.

After many many hours, the schema update completed. This is why [bigfix.ideas.hcl-software.com/ideas/BFINV-I-524] is badly needed.

Where is the 11.0.8 document for this Configuring the server to achieve FIPS compliance

Update on LDAP issue.
