BigFix Inventory and IBM Catalog Product Definition Changes

This announcement describes upcoming changes to BigFix Inventory in line with IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) product changes as outlined in https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6223460.

BigFix Inventory

Starting with BigFix Inventory version 10.0.2.0, updates to licensing definitions and bundling information for IBM products will be available only with updates to BigFix Inventory server code. Previous to this change, these updates were packaged with updates to the BigFix Inventory software catalog.

In order to remain compliant with IBM licensing and bundling requirements, you will need to stay current with the latest BigFix Inventory release and cannot manage IBM changes via monthly catalog distribution. This change was introduced to align with IBM announcement for version 9.2.20.0 of IBM License Metric Tool (see link above).

IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT)

Starting with IBM License Metric Tool 9.2.20.0 release (impacts also customers with earlier versions), updates to licensing definitions for IBM products are delivered with new version of the IBM License Metric Tool server code.

All customers of IBM License Metric Tool must upgrade and stay current to the latest product version to benefit from current software definitions and license counting rules. Because BigFix Inventory includes IBM License Metric Tool server library to manage and calculate licensing information for IBM products, this change also affects customers using BigFix Inventory including customers with BigFix Inventory server on versions prior to 10.0.2.0.

Ongoing Catalog Releases

Please note that BigFix Inventory team will continue to deliver regular releases of software catalog for non-IBM products for use by BigFix Inventory without the necessity to upgrade the server code.
