BigFix BESClient Using high CPU Load on Solaris when Evaluating

(imported topic written by jtwcarboy)

I have worked to tune the BESClient REsource SleepIdle and BESClient Resource WorkIdle settings but that didnt help my cpu usage any so let me explain.

I have the client set to debug and when the Logs show :

Evaluate file Patches for Solaris Maintenance/Tasks.fxf

OR

Evaluate file Patches for Solaris/Tasks.fxf

The CPU usage spikes to about 10 -15% for about 5-7 minutes.

But once those evaluations are done its back to 1% or so.

So here is my question, how can i change how often that Evaluate file patches xxx runs ?

I tried also

BESCLient Comm Command Poll Interval and that didnt control how often these evaluations are happening. The evaluations seem to happen again and again. See logs below to see where it just evaluates then starts again shortly afterwards: I only really need it to do this evaluation once a week or so:

First Time

There is a bug on Solaris that causes high CPU use, it is associated with the Patches for Solaris Maintenance site (it’s actually in the “installed packages inspector”)… it

may

be the bug you are experiencing.

For your reference it is bug 38750 and it will be fixed in the next 8.1 patch release. Unfortunately, I can’t give a delivery date at this time.
