The HCL Development team is pleased to announce updates to the BigFix Asset Discovery.

This release provides the following capabilities:

  • BES Asset Discovery now supports Nmap Scan Point Version 7.70 running on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 2012, Windows 2016, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 2019 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, x86-64 architectures. This results in a better accuracy of the Operating System detection, and so in a more reliable functionality of filtering out BES computers.

  • BES Asset Discovery continues to support Nmap Scan Points Version 5.61 running on Red Hat Linux 5, Centos 5 and Linux Tiny Core 8.2.

  • Nmap Scan Points, on both Linux and Windows systems, allow to use the CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) format specification to scan more subnets in a single statement.

  • Addressed APAR IJ15354 - OS Accuracy of Unmanaged Assets wrongly shows consecutive percentage signs

Reason for Update:

Nmap 7.70 includes hundreds of new OS and service fingerprints, a much-improved Npcap library and service detection improvements to make the scan faster and more accurate. Additionally, the Nmap security scanner and Npcap packet capture library are used within BigFix under license from Insecure.Com LLC (The Nmap Project).

Actions to Take:

Users of the BigFix Asset Discovery will need to update the Nmap Scan Points to version 7.70, using the following Fixlets from the BES Asset Discovery site:

  • Fixlet 261 Upgrade Nmap Scan Point - Version 7.70
  • Fixlet 264 Upgrade Nmap Scan Point - Red Hat Enterprise Linux | CentOS - Version 7.70

Users of the BigFix Asset Discovery will need to upgrade the Asset Discovery Import Service, using the following Fixlets from the BES Asset Discovery site:

  • Fixlet 15 Upgrade Nmap Asset Discovery Import Service - BES >= 7.0
  • Fixlet 251 Upgrade Nmap Asset Discovery Import Service > 9.0 - Red Hat Enterprise Linux

There is no Platform version as a prerequisite.

NOTE: These new changes in the BES Asset Discovery site content are in English language only. A follow up update will provide translated content for the de, es, fr, it, ja, ko, pt, zh-CN and zh-TW languages.
