BigFix 9.5 RHEL installation with Remote DB2 - Any expirience?

Hello togehter,

has anybody experience with BigFix 9.5 installation on RHEL with a remote DB2? I found no real information about this, except that it shoudl work. Local Db2 client is installed with a local instance owner. Catlog is done for note and database, but as I try to install, the installation fails.

There was an error connecting to the database. Check that you have sufficient database privileges:

Port is open, remote user is instance owner… I am out of ideas right now.

Regards

J

Short update:

PMR is open on the topic. It seems that there is an issue when DB2_Instance_Name and DB2_Admin_user differ.

Speaking from experience… DON’T DO REMOTE DB2 with BES on Linux. Spec your root server so that all core BES and DB2 services can co-locate. Please note that this does not mean running BFI, BFC, WebUI, etc. locally, but only core services.

Beyond the performance gains with BESFillDB and BESRootServer services, running local-DB2 makes BES upgrades easier. Additionally, if you plan on leveraging ServerAutomation (aka SA) the additional latency can cause issues as SA is highly dependent on BESFillDB and fast endpoint report updates.

I hope this helps you. I wish I had known before remote DB2 + a busy network morning caused BESFillDB to puke and left an enterprise deployment incomplete at a very inopportune point.

PS - that enterprise deployment failure was back in the early 9.0.x days.
