How does BFI determine the usage of an application? does it look at a windows log file to determine that? Is the scanner running all the time and that’s how it determines whether it ran or not?
The BES Client does process monitoring and BFI processes the information that it obtains.

Thanks Alan. Also, Does “Last Used” for an application only determine the time an application was last used after Bigfix client/scanner was installed on a computer or would it know if an application was ran before client/scanner was installed on a machine?
The BFI scanner isn’t doing the scanning to my knowledge, it looks for the apps then determines the usage through the client. The client does have to have additional scanning activated though so it does depend on that being turned on

BFI does not scan for usage, it leverages BESClient process monitoring data.
