What is the best relay selection method for an environment that has 2500+ endpoints?
Currently, we are using an automatic relay selection and we have 15 relays, however we observed that most of the endpoints are still connecting on other relay instead of the closest one, and from the Distance to Relay properties, we have noticed that there are values “13” or “8”
Please remember that automatic relay selection relies on icmp to determine which relay the client will use.
Are you sure that all of the machines can use the icmp protocol to their designated relay?
Do you also use the failover list configuration?

Agree with @dobby , may need to investigate the ICMP settings.
You can also use Relay Affiliation lists. We are multi-tenant and use Affiliation lists heavily.
