Besclienthelper.exe shutdown error

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

I’ve just deployed BigFix to about 15,000 machines, and deployed the BES Client Helper service through a policy action. I’m getting reports from multiple users saying they are getting an error referencing besclienthelper.exe when they try to shutdown or reboot their machines. It says -

BESClientHelper.exe - Application Error.

The Instruction at “0x00000000” referenced memory at “0x00000000”. The memory could not be “read”.

OK to terminate, Cancel to debug.

It does not happen every time they shut down, just some times. I’ve been unable to duplicate it in testing. Has anyone else come across this? Any known fixes? We’re on version 8.0.627.0 of BigFix. Thanks in advance for your time.

We came across this in BES 7.x and finally ended up removing the service. If you find a solution, please post it here, as we’d like to deploy again but don’t have the time to debug it right now.

We’re getting this as well. We’re running 8.1.551.0. Client OS is WinXP. Happens randomly and doesn’t write anything to the event logs. Has anyone found a solution to this yet…other than uninstalling.

Hey guys,

Hmm… We will need to look into this… but it is generally considered a troubleshooting tool and we don’t recommend deploying it widely…
