BESClient.exe - Application Error : The memory could not be "written"

(imported topic written by jgraham91)

We’ve got a client, which continually crashes upon startup. The crash is not immediate. It will start executing appropriate actions, then fail. Quite often these crashes appear to immediately follow a “Report posted successfully.” Details follow. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (Note: We have tried an uninstall/reinstall of the client. Which, generally, sorts out this sort of problem.)

Crash Details:

Application popup: BESClient.exe - Application Error : The instruction at “0x004dd2e3” referenced memory at “0x00000014”. The memory could not be “written”.

The BES Client service was successfully sent a stop control.

Hi jgraham,

It looks like your agent is crashing when subscribing to one of the Fixlet sites. Not sure why this might be… here are a couple things to try:

  • 7.0.7.96 Agent might fix this.
  • If you can find a .dmp file in the agent folder, send that to support for analysis.

I didn’t find any dmp files. I’ll try a full uninstall and upgrade the client sometime this week.

Long time no see. Last time I ran into you, I was working for Federal-Mogul… and I was probably harassing you over much the same sort of issue.

Hi all

I am also getting the same error while shutdown the machine in which BESClient of version 7.1.1.315 was installed as follows…

Application popup: BESClient.exe - Application Error : The instruction at “0x004dd2e3” referenced memory at “0x00000014”. The memory could not be “written”.

Every thing is working fine except this error. Can any one suggest regarding this.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using the BigFix 7.1 Agent with the SCM Fixlet content? I think there was an issue that caused a problem like this and support has a fix and a workaround… Also, the new upcoming 7.2 should have this issue addressed.

My client version 7.1.1.315, we have more than 15,000 client upgrading will be a huge task. Can you provide the workaround for this issue for the client running 7.1.
