BES Deployment - BES Relay Behavior

(imported topic written by sainathss91)

Hello All,

I am new to BES deployment, i am reading BES admin guide and performing the tasks . Below is my setup

Subnet : single subnet

Servers : BES server installed on Windows 2k8 ( 192.168.1.2)

BES Console + BES relay installed on other windows 2k8 ( 192.168.1.3 ) (bigfixrelay.sai.com)

Database configured on SQL server ( 192.168.1.4)

Having One win2k8 for testing

Domain : all the above 4 systems are in one domain (sai.com)

BES Clients : installed BES clients on all server except Database

====================================================

Issue : after installing BES Client on these servers , under Relay tab i donot see them registered to bigfixrelay.sai.com , rather they are pointing to BES Root server.

I tried configuring by selecting clients -> edit computer settings --> BES relay selection mode --> automatically loccate BES relay

After configuring , i restarted the BES client service

checked the “action” status in BES console it shows " not relevant " ( confused)

– But no luck , these are still pointing to BES server.

any help would be appreciated.

BES Client choose the relay based on hop counts, your on the same subnet.

So your relay and Enterprise server are the same hop count.

Try edit configuration on the workstations and point them to the relay server,

otherwise, if your environment is small enough having them pointed to the Enterprise is not an issue.

Highlight the clients you want to change the settings for. Right click “Edit Computer Settings”. Tick Manual for “Relay Selection Method” and then tick the Primary and Secondary Relay boxes. Set the appropriate relay order for each and then go Ok.
