BES Client installation on Linux and Unix Servers to non default directory

Customer has small directory structure for root file system and they have 5000 servers and are highly sensitive and they want to change the default directory locations and they have issue with using symbolic link process for 5000 servers. Is there another way to change this? This is a large finical global institution.

The only supported way for the base parts of the components is via the symlink. There are some directories in the Server/Relay that could be redirected by settings.

The ones you have to stick with are the

/opt/BES(Client|Server|Relay)
/var/opt/BES(Client|Server|Relay)
/etc/opt/BESClient (for the masthead - I can not remember if the Server also puts its masthead there)

Usually only the /var/opt directories are redirected somewhere else if any are.

Thanks for your advise and response as it was expected. Thanks Alan

We had a similar problem, even if you change the directory when installing, it will just ignore it and store the majority of the files where it was designed to. The provided solution, since symlinks were not desirable, was using separate LVs mounted where Bigfix usually installs itself. The plus is that if there is a failure and the directory starts to grow too much, only the agent fails.
