BES Client for Ubuntu and FreeBSD Servers

(imported topic written by mfhowarth91)

Does anyone know if and when BigFix are due to add clients for these Linux OS distributions?

I have managed to install the BES Client onto a Ubuntu Server using “alien” to convert a supported rpm to work on Ubuntu.

But it would be better to use fully supported clients.

Has anyone managed to get a BigFix client installed and working on a BSD System?

Ubuntu is high on our priority list, but we can’t commit to dates in this Forum. FreeBSD is not on our priority list, we get very few requests for it relative to support requests for other Linuxes, expanded (commercial) Unix support, mobile OS support, and now even embedded OSes (think cash registers).

On a personal note, FreeBSD is my favorite *nix… but the whims of one geek do not a product plan make.

Thanks for letting me know.

I will keep an eye out for Ubuntu clients appearing on the supported downloads page.

One of our guys rolled his own so to speak using one of the Red Hat distros and it’s working great. We’re reporting in and picking up more info that I thought we were going to so far.

I’ll see if I can get him to post what he’s done so far.

I think he used info from the forum on what others have done to get there.
