I was wondering if anyone has any experience using/configuring RiverBed appliances so that they properly work for BigFix. I just found out our network team is testing these devices for some WAN optimization and both of the locations that they are testing this out on are now having issues with the clients talking to the local relays.
I logged into one of the local machines and I can ping the local relay, and i ran a tracert and the relay is only 2 hops away. However the machine is talking to a relay that is 6 hops away.
Currently we have about 500-600 machines at these two locations that are talking to other relays or the main server just not thier local relay. Just wondering if anyone else has used these appliances and had simliar issues.
I have a meeting with the network team setup for tomorrow but they seem to think that RiverBed would not cause any sort of blocking/issues with the relay communication.
Just in case anyone else runs into this issue I resolved this by uninstalling and reinstalling the relay at each of the sites that RiverBed was installed at.
I followed the KB recommendations if the Client/Relay communication was down and tested this
• A BigFix Client is blocked from contacting the BigFix Relay because of a firewall or NAT - The BigFix Client connects to the BigFix Relay using HTTP on the specified port number (default is 52311). Verify that the BigFix Client computer can make a connection to the BigFix Relay by going to the BigFix Client computer and pasting http://relayname:port/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/clientregister.exe?requesttype=version into a browser. If you see a version number, then the BigFix Client can properly connect to the BigFix Relay. If you receive an HTTP error, then you will need to determine why the BigFix Client cannot contact the BigFix Relay.
I was getting Page Cannot Be Displayed. Once I uninstalled/reinstalled the relay I was able to get the version number. I forced clients to relay autoselection and they are now talking properly.
