BES and Vista

(imported topic written by QXVH_Charles_Brown)

What is Big Fix’s offical stance on supoport for Vista?

Wil there be a new agent, if so will that agent also be “backwards” compatible with W2k & XP?

Will there be a changes to relevance, what it can and can not do.

We have actually run a 5.1x bes client on an earlier version of Vista, seemed to work OK from a 30,000 foot view. Suprisingly there were no Enterprise Security patches  at that time.

Hey Chuck,

The current BES 5.1/6.0 Agents will run just fine on Windows Vista except that the end-user interface (message boxes and restart boxes) do not work in the latest Vista release candidate because they changed the way that Services interact with the desktop.

We have a new version of the BES Client that should be released very soon that will address this issue and it will be the same client for all versions of Windows.

Thanks Ben,

What is Ca’s Stance on Pest patrol?

Let me check with them…

Since BigFix AntiPest runs silently and uses the BES Client for all user interaction and network communication, my first guess is that it will work fine in the current version.

We will see.
