BES 5.0 end-of-life soon!

(imported topic written by BenKus)

Hi everybody,

Just a friendly reminder that with the coming introduction of BES 7.0, we will no longer be supporting BES 5.0 (BES 5.1 and 6.0 are still supported).

If you are one of the rare people who have not updated your BES Server to 5.0+, please do so as soon as you can and if you have BES 5.0 agents still laying around, now is a good time to upgrade too.

More announcements to come regarding BES 7.0,

Ben

Do you have a definite date for the 7.0 release? We are upgrading our BigFix hardware, and with it the OS from Win 2000 to 2003. We want to go straight to version 7. Also, we are going from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. Is there a migration strategy available that we can follow for our migration?

Hi smill59,

I can’t talk about the release date on the forum… but I recommend that you do the hardware upgrade, database upgrade, and software upgrade in separate steps. It is certainly possible to do them all at once, but it can sometimes be hard to get all the stuff changed at the same time.

Is there a cost involved with upgrading from BESv6 to BESv7?

Most customers are eligible for free updates as long as their subscription is current. The updates are delivered via upgrade Fixlets in the BESSupport site. However, some customers may have contracts that restrict upgrades and/or there may be additional functionality in the new versions that require separate licensing terms.

Your best bet is to contact your sales rep to be sure.
