Baselines - Displaying Messages

(imported topic written by nberger91)

Here’s the scenario …

We have approximately 25 Baselines containing on average 40 components (backdated to current ms hotfixes) in each.

We’d like to utilize the Message notification, for before and during running the action groups, however have reservations on how this will look cosmetically.

What I don’t want on a desktop requiring all 25 Baselines, is to see and ack 25 Messages. Are there limitations on how many component groups that can be added to a single Baseline …? If not, I could potentially add them all and use the standard Message tab.

From other posts, I’m sure, for efficiency, BigFix recommend no more than 50 components per single Baseline.

Is adding new component groups within a Baseline different to just adding components ?

Any thoughts on how to achieve this natively would be appreciated ?

Hey nberger,

7.0 with efficient mime removes the 50 Fixlets/baseline limitation and so whenever you get things upgraded, this problem will start to go away.

To answer your question, adding component groups are simply a way to organize Fixlets in baselines and don’t affect the overall functionality/efficiency of baselines.

Do you need to have both “pre” and “during” messages? what if everything was a “during” message, which would be pretty easy…

No plans for 7 for several months yet :frowning:

‘During’ would work, would I get a ‘new’ message during each running Baseline ? That’s what I’m trying to avoid …

Thanks

You would get one ‘during’ message per baseline, but at least there wouldn’t be an acknowledgement step…
