Backup Prior to an Upgrade

I have always had a question about the type of backup prior to an upgrade. The instructions only say do a backup.

We have 3 servers: root, web reports, and SQL. I plan to do an active SQL backup at 5 PM and then a snapshot of the three servers at 5:30 PM.

My question is: would it be better to stop all of the Bigfix services prior to the backup so that the system is in a quiescent state?

Or, if the database backup is a little older than the snapshots by minutes, will Bigfix be able to handle it and resync itself after a restore?

It is not necessary to stop the BigFix Server services prior to a backup, but it doesn’t hurt to do so either (particularly in the case of an upgrade where there is essentially scheduled downtime anyway). And yes, BigFix will be able to re-synchronize Client data in the event that you have to restore to an older backup/snapshot (note that this includes things like Fixlet applicability and property data, but does not include action history for actions taken after the backup/snapshot).
