Automatic groups within automatic groups

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Are there any limitations in the amount of automatic groups you can ‘stack’? Example

I have an automatic group that is for one site of the business. This auto group is part of a parent auto group for subsidiary, which in turn is part of an auto group for the entire business.

However, what I am seeing is that when I make changes to the initial group, in order to filter out devices that do not belong, I am not seeing these changes happening (at least not yet), in the top level auto group. It has been several hours, and I still see devices in this primary group that I do not want in there.

Note; I have tried sending a refresh to the primary group to ‘wake up’ the devices, and it did not help. I am also confident that the groups are built properly, but will review that again after I give the devices time to chime into BES.

Thoughts?

Hey weberch,

The agent will need to notice that its group membership changed before it will report its results… If your group definition is based on another group definition, the agent will need to notice the changes one-at-a-time (because the agent doesn’t keep track of the linking of the groups).

So I would expect that you will see the change, it just may not be as fast as other parts of BigFix…
