Automatic Group - add property

Simple question - When creating a new group, you can select form a list of properties to pull in. Is there a way to add in an existing property to this list? I can add the column into the Computers list and such, but would love to pull in endpoints based on this property into an automatic group, without using the Custom Relevance.

Thanks!

You would need to create the property by going in the console to:

Tools > Manage Properties

Once your property is defined, you can start using them in the way you describe.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess this is where I’m lost. I’ve seen this property manager many times and it has thousands of properties in it. But there are only ~50 or so listed when attempting to make an automatic computer group. So how do I get them into that smaller list? trying to get images

Actually, never mind jmaple, you were spot on. The property already existed that I wanted but I needed to create a custom copy identical to the property already in IEM. I can now see it in the automatic group properties.

Thanks!!

So when you go into “manage properties” you see all properties that are defined either by themselves, or through an analysis, which is a collection of properties.

It is best to always define properties within a parent analysis and not on their own, UNLESS you want them to be available for automatic computer groups and similar places with that style drop down.

For a property to be available in the drop down, it must be defined by itself in the master action site so that it has global context, which is what happens when you create a property as @jmaple describes.

In general, you want the master action site to contain as little as possible as all clients must process all of it frequently.
