I have seen some cases where, after doing an Asset Discovery, the hosts in the “Unmanaged Assets” list appear with hostname “N/A”. Why would that happen? In which situations would the hostname detection fail? My guess is that this is less likely to happen with desktops and servers, but (for example) a router or switch with no configured hostname would appear in TEM with hostname “N/A”…
Your comments will be very valuable as always. Thanks!
Depends on the device. Does it have a DNS entry? Does it answer netbios/snmp or other protocol where the name can be gleaned? Lacking those would be some reasons though DNS would probably be the first place I would look.
