Will the OS X agent work on an Apple iPad? If not, is there or will there be iPad support at some point? Or could the OS X agent be adapted for iPads?

No, unfortunately, there are no agents for iPads and iPhones right now.

While iOS – the OS for iPhone and iPad – has some similarity under the covers to OS X they are really very different when it comes to running an agent on them. To over simplify: you can’t “get root” on iOS as we do with our agent on OS X. Apple has encouraged systems management vendors to go ahead and use their existing development infrastructure, but the APIs available to us from that route to not provide us all of the tools we need to make our enterprise customers happy.

Not to detract, but my wifes Nook Color works very well. For $250, it may be an option worth looking into.
