API target server(s?) question

Simple question, hopefully with a simple answer.

From what I’ve read, BigFix API requests are processed by BigFix Explorer and BigFix Web Reports servers. In an environment with multiple servers of both types, do you send the API request to one of these servers directly or to the root server (who then routes the request to one of the other servers for processing)?

Side question: is there a way to specify a particular server to process an API request (for example, to give an API-heavy process its own API processor so that it’s not competing with other requests)?

You should distinguish between REST APIs, that are served directly by the Root Server, and Query Relevance, that are routed by the Root Server to the BES Explorer or the Web Reports as the Root Server is not able to resolve on its own.

Ah! Okay… I thought that all of the REST API functionality was handled by the Web Reports services. Thank you for that correction.

In that case, is it correct to say that it’s the Root server that either (a) answers the REST API request, or (b) routes the REST API Query request to an available Explorer or Web Reports server, and that routing Query requests to a specific Explorer or Web Reports server is not possible?

That is generally correct, yes.
