Android Mobile Client won't uninstall

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

The client won’t uninstall from my 2.3.4 HTC phone . . . from PlayStore, the tapping Uninstall causes it to just run forever. Others have made a similar comment. Tried multiple times, rebooted, etc.

Are there any circumventions for this?

I think the client is draining my battery. We are just testing MDM, and I’ll try it on other devices instead.

Hi,

Android doesn’t allow users to uninstall applications that have Device Administrators unless the user disables the device administrators first.

To uninstall the Mobile Client you can:

  1. Open Settings -> Location and Security -> Device Administrators

  2. Disable the IBM Mobile Client device administrator

then

  1. Open Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications

  2. Select the IBM Mobile Client and click on Uninstall

The next version of the IBM Mobile Client (to be released within a couple of days) has a “Uninstall Mobile Client” shortcut in the user interface to facilitate the uninstallation task.

Hi CJ,

Sorry about this… It is an Android limitation that you can’t easily uninstall apps that have elevated permissions, as Miguel mentioned…

Hopefully our new “Uninstall” button in the new Android app (just released!) will help this…

(By the way, I think you will see this in every other MDM app on Android… we all share the same problem since it is an Android issue…)

Ben

The new “Uninstall” button on the apps settings panel worked, thanks.
