I have two sites with many servers at both locations. At my 2nd site (Disaster Recovery), I have systems there with EXACTLY the same hostnames as those of production. IE…they are sitting there ready to go in the event of some disaster.
Is there a way to have bigfix display an alternate hostname such as hostname-dr rather than just plain hostname? Not sure what is going to happen with I try to add both hosts in with duplicate hostnames…be nice to have a way to spoof the dr ones in the besclient.config or something like that.
There isn’t a specific way to redefine the hostname, but the duplicate hostnames will be fine in BigFix (the agent’s have a unique ID so that hostname collisions don’t matter).
You probably want to make DR groups to easily identify/filter the computers…
One more thing… be careful if you running the Deleted Computer Remover utility (at http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/downloadutility.html#bescomputerremove) because it will try to detect duplicate hostnames for you… If you do run it, use the “-P” option with another property name (like MAC Address).
Hello
I have the same problem, several endpoints with same hostname/Computer Name in the console. they different machines but need to override the Computer Name in BigFix in order for a in house build solution to work. Help please!
You can’t override the the computer name property however you can create a custom property with a name of your choice and use that in your in house solution instead of the computer name property. I recommend you don’t can that custom property computer name as that can be confusing.
