Just looking to see if anyone has done verison 7.2.5 or newer agent deployments on Windows 7 and what type of experience you had. Right now we are marginally satisfied with our results.
So far in our testing we have had User Account Control interfere, InstallShield Errors when using the MSI and general slowness / slugishness reporting into the console.
From our side, I don’t think we have any known issues that I know of…
You mention that the agents seem more sluggish, but I would be surprised if that is related to Win7… The changes we made for Win7 were very minimal so it is pretty much the same agent as on all the other Win OSes.
I’m not sure why we are seeing the UAC issues and the InstallShield errors with the MSI installer. Running the setup.exe got around the InstallSshield issue. As for UAC, well, it’s UAC, but will BigFix be delivering an agent with a manifest so that UAC is not triggered?
The slugishness is an ongoing problem we are having with Win7 and Win2k8 and have been unable to pinpoint the cause.
ErinC,
I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t see that content as it is not Security Related. I’ve started a feature request thread if you want to add your name to the list.
Right now Windows Firewall is completly turned off via GPO. We also have a Policy Baseline which contains the fixlet “Windows Firewall is Blocking BES Traffic - Windows Vista / Windows 2008 / Windows 7 / Windows 2008R2 - BES Client >= 7.0”. Although that fixlet has never run since the GPO is in place.
Does this mean you are experiencing some type of issue as well?
I can’t say with certainty that I’m seeing the same issues as you. If Windows Firewall is mis-configured, clients definitely seem sluggish, but that’s expected. If we come across any other sluggishness, I will be sure to let you know.
Yes, even with UAC off we still have issues. One example is when Win7 goes to into “sleep” mode. When Win7 wakes up (user presses power button or wiggles mouse), it takes up to an hour for the BigFix agent to “wake up”. We are measuring this by the log files not having any entries up to an hour.
We are working with support and have provided logs and debug info but it has been a long process with no definative answers. We are seeing similar issues on Win2k8 - not with sleep mode (disabled) but just slugish reporting. The clients will go gray in the console (after the default 45 minutes) and then un-grey after about an hour.
Just wanted to see what the community at large was experiencing.
My Win7 machine is set to “performance” mode and not allowed to sleep, hibernate, or turn off hardware components. That may explain the delta in experience …
Yea… I started looking into this and I saw similar lags as you noted… but then I realized my test computer was just going to sleep, which is why I didn’t see it reporting in… Since I have disabled sleep, everything seems to act normal for me…
Having trouble installing the besclientmsi.msi on new windows 7 64-bit machines. I have a user that tries to launch the .msi install manually. The install window pops up then disappears without actually installing anything. My .msi is showing a modified date of 10/27/2009 which I believe is the most recent one. Has anybody else come across this?
I think this is a problem on x64 based systems (independent of Win7)… basically the InstallShield libraries don’t run properly with the MSI installer… The same issue is here:
