Why computers duplicate in console?

([imported topic]( written by RemQuadriga91)

Dear colleagues,

I’m evaluating BigFix with 30 trial licenses. After creation of several actions/fixlets I’ve noticed that I’ve got more than a 100 computers. Most of them are copies of one PC. I’ve found the BESComputerRemover.exe utility, it works fine. But the computers proceed multiplying. Any ideas of what’s going on?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, is the PC actually a VM ?

This can be caused by software that is used to ensure writes don’t persist after a reboot. Deep Freeze is the most common product of this type, though when a VM reverts to a previous snapshot it has the same effect.

http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?id=12 has information on how to allow BigFix/TEM and these type of products to co-exist. As for the VM, install the agent and then take the snapshot it would be reverting back to it would resolve the issue.

No, it’s not a VM, it’s an ordinary XP running on a standard PC.

Firewall issue? check the log file. Maybe post the log file if you can.

Are you reinstalling the BigFix Client? Basically each time it is installed it creates a new Computer Object even if the name already exists.

Would you be able to use the TEM computer remover utility? Create the batch file to run as a scheduled task.
