WebUI Site unreachable (service-wrapper.log)

Hi,
I installed WebUI yesterday, today I noticed that I was getting an error on the permissions page, the error showed "An Error occurred while initializing permissions page"
My reaction was to restart the webUI service, but it was not stopping.
I needed to restart the server, but it’s not getting the problem solved.
The Service-wrapper.log file only shows WebUI service version 9.5.8.38 starting and then Begin adjusting file ownership and security settings for D:\Program Files (x86)\Bigfix Enterprise\BES WebUI\BES WebUI and that’s it.
So it’s somehow stuck on starting WebUI.
Can anyone help?

I’ve noticed the process takes a long time to start… How long have you waited before restarting the service/server?
In an environment I managed I could take up to 10 minutes to start the service.

What version of Windows are you using?
Is D: the SystemDrive?
Is the BESClient installed on the same drive?

Nope, it’s in the same status “Begin adjusting File Ownership” for a few hours, so the service is not interacting with the application it seems::Wed, 23 Jan 2019 11:24:35 -0500 – WebUI service version 9.5.8.38 starting

Yes, D is SystemDrive, and the Besclient is also there, and before the restart of the besUI service, it ran without issue’s.

Do you see anything in the D:\Program Files (x86)\Bigfix Enterprise\BES WebUI\BES WebUI\WebUI\logs or D:\Program Files (x86)\Bigfix Enterprise\BES WebUI\BES WebUI\WebUI\sites folders? I wonder, if its a first time installation, if the process to create the WebUI tables on the SQL server is completing.

D:\Program Files (x86)\BigFix Enterprise\BES WebUI\BES WebUI\WebUI\sites\Pending is empty, so the install was completed. And the service-app.log just froze at the moment the WebUI was attempted to be restarted…

If you have access to the SQL server, might be worth checking to see if any of the WebUI tables exists. If not then that could indicate its that part that is preventing the rest of the WebUI initialization and starts from completing.

Based on these line items in your service log not having the “Finished Adjusting” method in them I’d open a PMR. The WebUI service is having issues starting up

It’s working again, I’m able to login into the webUI again. (apparently there were issue’s with the SQL environment where the DB was running on).

But I still now have the issue that the permissions page is not loading correctly, so it’s not possible for me to set specific access rights for operators.
The message shows: Permissions
An error occurred while initializing permissions page

Any thoughts?

If it’s confirmed that a folder similar to the following is present on the file system
D:\Program Files (x86)\BigFix Enterprise\BES WebUI\WebUI\sites\WebUI Permissions and Preferences_12580_2_1532723783, and if the the permission page problem may be reproduced with different browsers, might be worth opening a PMR as suggested by Alan.

@karinvandenbussche Hey sorry I’m a little slow to this party, but I’m glad you guys got through the WebUI permission changing WebUI Service initialization. Typically, unless you have hundreds of thousands of files inside the directory where the WebUI is running, it shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes on WebUI startup to get through the initialization phase for adjusting file permissions. Anything longer is pretty weird.

If you’re having issues with the permissions stuff, you should definitely file a bug and we’ll follow up seperately with you. If you’re comfortable, you can PM me the logs inside of the WebUI directory and I can take a preliminary look before the case starts working it’s way through support to us? (WebUI logs are at C:\Program Files (x86)\BigFix Enterprise\BES WebUI\WebUI\logs by default)

Thanks for your answer. I’m able to get to the permissions page in the Edge browser only. I do notice that in the beginning I saw 10 webUI apps in the Bigfix console and now I only see 8. And when I log into the WebUI, I don’t see the fixlet ‘OS Deployment and BareMetal imaging’, although I see it in my Bigfix console. Can you explain this?
Thanks in advance.
