VM manager Connection failed in ILMT

For the data to be displayed successfully in the UI, the VM Manager data needs to be matched to the Capacity scan data retrieved from the machines. If for some reason the data doesn’t match up, then even if you have VM Manager Data from the hypervisor it will not help you. Try to re-run the Capacity scan fixlet on the machines which are missing the data but force the upload (use “run a single capacity scan and force upload of results” option within the fixlet). Once the action complete, rerun the data import and see if that makes a difference.

Couple of other things that I’ve seen throw things off:

  • Do you know if you have duplicate UUIDs/Serial Numbers in your environment? it generally happens if people “clone” a machine as method to create a new one. If the unique identifiers are duplicate things can become quite unpredictable! Missing VM Manager data; incorrect VM manager data (it shows a VM is on hypervisor that they actually aren’t; etc)
  • What are the actual VM? We use for example, Citrix PVS (“disposable” machines that meant to be “reset” to gold image on every reboot, and do not retain any client data, so they report as duplicate). That completely messes up Inventory and causes things to not match-up… I guess depending if you have some similar type of technology you may have the same problem.
