Using Nix Client installer from TEM Server

(imported topic written by Ruth_Meadows)

Hello, all,

I downloaded the *NIX client installer from the BigFix Labs website to distribute clients to Linux boxes, and the Installer won’t start. I have tried running it as an administrator and that makes no difference.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get this to run on my TEM Server (windows 2008 R2)?

Is there an alternate method to install the client on Linux? This is an air gapped environment.

I am also experiencing the same issue. I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 with version 8.2.1078.0 of the Endpoint Manager Console. I have the deploy tool installed to my c:\Program Files\BigFix Enterprise like everything else. I downloaded the deploy tool on 3/15/2012 from the official site.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Brett

I downloaded the NIX Client Deployment Wizard a couple of weeks ago and installed it on our TEM server, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, and have not had this problem. I can start it from the Administrator login or my own personal one.

Perhaps, if you are both in an Air-Gapped environment, the tool will not start if it cannot detect access to the TEM/BigFix site that houses the TEM Client install files. The tool will automatically download the proper client install files from the Internet for the computers you target, if they do not already exist in a specific directory on the TEM server from which you are running the tool.

Thank you Larry for your reply. This solved my issue. I had not even thought that the client may be trying to open an internet connection. I performed a packet capture and discovered my internet proxy server blocking connectivity to “http://support.bigfix.com/labs/downloads/nix_files/versions.txt”.

Thank you for your help!!
