Updating to 8.1.617.0

(imported topic written by Ken.Thomas91)

I ran this update recently from the main BES. It seems to have updated the software to the correct version but broke it at the same time. None of my remote consoles will connect to the Root server and even trying to run updates directly from the root server will not work.

Does anyone know what I can look at to try and fix this without having to re-install BigFix?

What is the error message are you getting?

When trying to run from the BES it self all i get is a pop up saying Can’t connect to the root server. When using a remote console it says it can not establish a connection to the Database, because it has version of Enterprise 2.18 and this application requires a database version of Enterprise 2.22

Looks like you’ve updated the Server but not the Console. They need to be updated together.

If you have upgraded the Installation Folders to the same version of the Server, you can install the Console on another machine.

Otherwise, you should probably contact support.

I found this at: http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=397

  1. If your BigFix Console gives an error message about the database being the wrong version, you may need to run the database upgrade scripts manually to upgrade the database.

Can anyone tell me what or where i can find the upgrade scripts to manually update the database?

Well, it seems that somehow a User DSN entry was created in ODBC. As well as the server for the bes_bfenterprise entry in the System DSN being configured incorrectly.

All seems to be working now and was able to finally upgrade the root server.

Hi,

I have the same question.

  1. If your BigFix Console gives an error message about the database being the wrong version, you may need to run the database upgrade scripts manually to upgrade the database.

Where I can find these upgrade scripts?

The “installer of installers” is here:

http:
//software.bigfix.com/download/bes/82/BigFix-BES-8.2.1079.0.exe

It contains the Server, Console, and Client installers.

Hi,

Yes, I know, but I meant only about database upgrade scripts. I thought that there are some separate scripts, beyond installers of Server, Console and Clients.

I run upgrade (8.2) of Server and Console and I cannot use Console and even Administration Tool, because I got still error that my database need to be upgrade (unable to connect to database version ‘Enterprise 2.22’; expected version ‘Enterprise 3.89’. Do you want to upgrade?).

When I click OK, I got error: The database appears to be in an inconsistent state. Database error:

Microsoft

http://SQL Server Native Client 10.0

SQL Server

There is already an object named ‘NEW_ACTION_COMMENTS’ in the database. (S0001:2714).

My Server is running on SQL Server 2008 R2.

Do you have any idea of solving this problem?

From what you have described, you have successfully installed the 8.2 Server component but you have not installed the 8.2 Console component.

Find the Console installer and run it. On my machine that setup.exe can be found at:

C:\Program Files\BigFix Enterprise\BES Installers\Console\setup.exe
