We’ve just pushed out Patch Release 1.3.2 for the Mobile Device Management Site.
Fixed Issues:
Fixed proxy agent problem which prevented devices from responding to action reapply for very long periods of time (affects Apple iOS, Microsoft Exchange, and Lotus Traveler devices)
Fixed problem that prevented re-authentication of Apple iOS devices
Fixed issue where Android agent was using more battery than necessary when it couldn’t resolve its GPS coordinates
Fixed intermittent issue where setting NitroDesk TouchDown policies would report “success” but not actually get set on the device
Android agents will no longer alert the user to install the SAFE extension if the device doesn’t support SAFE
Proxy agent now properly supports non-default TEM Relay ports
Recommended Actions:
Upgrade your Proxy Agents on all applicable Management Extenders (Fixlet 191: Upgrade Proxy Agents)
Use Google Play to update your Android Agents from the Android Device
We submitted the app on 12/18 around 7PM PST. For some reason Google Play hasn’t updated the app version yet but I expect it to happen in the next couple of hours. Last time it took 8 hours for the update to go live so let’s wait a bit more to see what happens.
I can confirm it’s also been pushed to devices. If you already had the IBM Mobile Client installed then you should see it in the Google Play updates panel.
SAFE support depends on the model and version of the OS. I have two Samsung Galaxy S phones with identical hardware (SGH-i897) and one supports SAFE 1.0 while the other doesn’t support SAFE at all. Given that the S2 is relatively recent then I’d say that it must have some level of SAFE support, either from factory or from an OTA update.
If your device supports SAFE then after installing the IBM Mobile Client you should see a little section on the main screen asking you to install the IBM Mobile Client for Samsung extension. If you don’t see this section then your device doesn’t support SAFE.
I just installed the extension and fortunately the SAFE functions work on my S2. I was confused because everything you find about SAFE on google is that the S3 is certified but nothing else about the S2. I hope that IBM or Samsung provides a list of compatible devices soon… I don’t want to buy new devices and later i recognize they are not supported
Unfortunately Samsung hasn’t release a list of SAFE-compatible device models. In fact, I have two Samsung Galaxy S phones that are exactly the same model but somehow one has Android 2.3.6 and supports SAFE while the other has Android 2.3.5 and doesn’t support SAFE
