Uninstall of common Instant Messengers

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

The following worked successfully in uninstalling Yahoo! Messenger:

wait {preceding text of first " " of (value “UninstallString” of keys “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Yahoo! Messenger” of registry as string) & " /s /a " & following text of first " " of (value “UninstallString” of keys “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Yahoo! Messenger” of registry as string)}

I tried using this same exact code but with Windows Live Messenger (MSN) and it did not work. Shouldn’t this work with just replacing the HKLM path with the appropriate messenger HKLM path? I am also trying to uninstall ICQ and AIM.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi DTindall,

Do you have our “SANS Top 10 Vulnerabilities for Windows” Fixlet site? It has Fixlets to uninstall common IMs like Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, AIM, etc.

Hi Daniel,

I think you need to check with BigFix licensing (licensing@bigfix.com) or your sales representative to make sure you have purchased this site… I believe it comes with many of the bundles that we sell, but please check to be sure the details of your deal…
